Heritage Cattle

When building your homestead, one of the things people will think about is owning their own cattle. Small landowners that decide a cow is the best animal to suit their needs, should think about getting a dual purpose heritage animal.

When deciding what animal is best for your family, make sure you do all the research you can. How much milk to you go through, what dairy products do you want to make, how much meat are you willing to deal with? How much time to devote and so forth.

Here is a list of heritage Cattle you should think about. (Clicking on the names will take you to the associations) All breeds are considered multipurpose. Milking/beef/work

Small Sized Cattle (dual purpose)

Medium Sized Cattle (mainly used for Milking)

Large Sized (mainly used for Beef)

There are more types out there. It just takes a lot of searching to find them. If you have questions, please ask. I will do my best to answer them. I own Kerries and American milking Shorthorns.
